Christmas has a wide tradition which will not be fully covered here; but just but a few will be briefed.

It is Christmas and celebration is everyone's mood at the moment. Kenyans are not left behind in marking the great day, on December 25.

Many do not really know what Christmas is all about and they pounce on it blindly to join many, saying it is the birth of the Savior?

This is a quote of the event, “For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty Elohim, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” -Isaiah 9:6

 Luke 2:8-13, records that time when Messiah was born, There was a presence of shepherds and their flock in the field, this accomplishes that it was not a winter season, but rather on a spring. Spring season never come on December. In Middle East Winter come on months of December, January and February and this temperature could not allow them to be in the field. Luke 2:8. And this concludes that Messiah was not delivered on December season.

 December 25th is not at all mentioned in the Bible. If it could had been mentioned, Herod could not massacre children from two year and below, Matthew 2:16. He could narrow down his Order to utmost weeks or month(s).

This date was chosen to celebrate the holidays to coincide with the pagan festival of Saturnalia in the 4th century. Saturnalia celebrated the agricultural god Saturn with partying, gambling, and gift-giving.

 Messiah’s birthday wasn’t celebrated at all for the first three centuries of Christianity’s existence. And it is not commanded anywhere in the Holy Scriptures. December 25th did not appears in Roman calendar until 336 C.E.as the date of Messiah’s birth

 Christmas Ever green Trees

Christmas tree has a long story. Christmas tree is set in honor of the sun god who is said becomes sick and weak during the winter season. Setting this tree reminded them of all the green plants that would grow again when the sun god get strong and summer would return.

In many countries it was believed that evergreens tree would keep away witches, ghosts, evil spirits, and illness.

People today decorate their homes during the festive season with pine, and other trees, hung evergreen boughs over their doors and windows not knowing their meaning and origin.

 Christmas Carols

There are several songs written specifically for Christmas and passed down from generation to generation. The most popular Christmas song is Silent Night which was initially written by a priest while stationed at a pilgrim church in Austria.

Jingle bells, on the other hand, was not a Christmas carol but a song for Thanksgiving.

 Father of Christmas Santa Claus is not scriptural. Santa Claus was initially St. Nicholas, a Christian bishop living in Turkey who had inherited a great deal of wealth and was known for giving it away to help the needy. He was also referred to as the protector of children and had nothing to do with Christmas.

Through the years, Santa wore a variety of colorful suit including red, blue, white, and green. His official red coat was introduced in the 1930s by Coca-Cola when he appeared in their advert.

 Gifts

Kids expect gifts from Santa Claus every Christmas with some even writing him letters to make requests. The gifting by Santa was initially a celebration of celebration of St. Nicholas feast day on December 6. During St. Nicholas feast day, children would leave shoes out the night before and, in the morning, would find little gifts that St. Nicholas would leave them.

 Christmas is not a long version of Christ

Although people associate the word Christmas with Christ, the former was in 1551 celebrated as “Xtemmas†and was later shortened to Xmas. The fact that people celebrate Christ's birth on the same day has convinced many that the two words are related.

 Christmas deaths

Every year, around 1500 people die from the festive season related causes. From road crashes to falls while decorating to celebratory fires. There is also lots of damage to property associated with the Christmas season.
